The original Greenwich Harbor Motor Lodge was built in 1961 as an investment by a New York based real estate group. The hotel was known for many years as The Showboat, a reference to the actual Mississippi Riverboat that was moored in the harbor next to the property. As a budget, limited service property, The Showboat became a popular local site, full of numerous tales populated with very colorful characters.
In 1989 the hotel was purchased by Lexington Hotel Corporation and was repositioned into The Greenwich Harbor Inn.
